The North Carolina Governor's School is a 4-week summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses. The curriculum focuses on the exploration of the most recent ideas and concepts in each discipline, and does not involve credit, tests, or grades.

You will focus on one particular discipline.
The academic areas are:
- English
- Math
- Natural Science
- Social Science
- Spanish

The arts areas are:
- Choral Music
- Dance
- Instrumental Music
- Theatre
- Visual Art

Who is Eligible?
- 11th graders who have at least one of the following:
- 3.25 unweighted GPA or higher
- 3.5 weighted GPA or higher
- Score of a 4 or higher on any EOC
- Score of 3 or higher an any AP exam
- Composite score of 19 or higher on the ACT or Pre-ACT
- 1010 on the SAT or PSAT

- 10th graders may apply in the area of Choral Music, Instrumental Music or Dance ONLY and must meet one of the above criteria.
Please note: Students who apply in the area of Spanish must have completed three levels of Spanish or be a native speaker.

The deadline to turn in all necessary components is October 10th 2025 by 2:30PM. There are no extensions.
- Applications do not come directly to the state office, they come to Ms. Minick
- 2 letters of recommendation from teachers here (see info below)
Letters of Recommendation
Students need 2 Letters of Recommendation:
- One letter MUST be from your high school teacher, preferably one who teaches in your area of discipline
- Second letter can be from another teacher or a community member
The 2 teachers complete the letter and then need to email the document directly to Ms. Minick at shannonm.minick@cms.k12.nc.us
Recommendation form must be typed and only on the form. No additional paper will be accepted.
